James
Clark led
the Swindon Dolphin medallists at the Swim Wales New Year Dragon Meet at
Swansea
last weekend with an impressive haul of two golds and one silver medal. For
many Dolphin swimmers this was the toughest test of the season so far, the meet including
strong contingents from the likes of Plymouth Leander and
University
of
Loughborough
, but there were a number of impressive performances that saw Dolphin ultimately achieve
eight top three finishes.
Clark
was
dominant in the 12 and under breaststroke competition, winning both the 100m and 200m
events, to add to his runners up spot in 200m individual medley. Samantha
Berry fared somewhat better than Clark in qualifying
for six finals, but injury prevented her from competing in four of these, restricting Berry to
a top place in the 11 and under 200m freestyle and a runners up spot in the 200m individual
medley. Both of these young swimmers
are already showing good form this season and will be among the favourites for the
Wiltshire BAGCATS. Matching
Berry
with a gold and a silver was Chris
Jones, a winner in the men’s 50m breaststroke and a
runner up at 200m in the same stroke, whilst Jon
Audis collected bronze in the men’s 100m backstroke.
Although not achieving medal placings, Charlotte Pitts, Victoria Jennings, Elizabeth Beckett, Cathal Westman, Anthony Clark and Tilly Gray all competed in finals.
