Excellent Start for Masters

Event: Wiltshire Masters Block one – 2008

Defending Wiltshire Masters’ Champions, Swindon Dolphin, made an impressive start in block one of this year’s competition at Tidworth on Saturday night, winning with 35 points to spare over second place Salisbury and 63 points ahead of local rivals, Swindon Area Masters, who finished in third place. Dolphin also claimed pole position in the men’s team rankings with the women settling for a creditable third place behind Salisbury and Swindon Area Masters.


Individually, Jon Audis (25-29 years) and Helen Hanks (35-39 years) led the way – Audis claiming four wins (25m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly & freestyle) and Hanks achieving three successes in the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly & freestyle, setting a new County record in the freestyle with a time of 1:08.13.


There were also new County records for Brian Davis (70-74 years) who prevailed in 3 events, Paul Kirk (35-39 years) and the 76-120 years mixed 200m freestyle relay A Team.


Louise Maynard, Andy Evans, Paul Kirk, Steve Cryer, and Nigel Masters chalked up two wins apiece while Liz Matthews, David Ingram, Jamie Webb and Anthony Clark all had one first place finish.


In the relay events, Dolphin took maximum points in the women’s 120-159 years & men’s 120-159 years 100m medley, and in the men’s 160-199 years 100m & the mixed 76-120 years 200m freestyle.


The next round is on the 7th June at the Link Centre.
