Herbert Goes Close in Bath

Nine Swindon Dolphin youngsters had their turn to get in some early season, long course, race practice over the weekend at the Team Bath Age Group Open Meet and returned with a haul of 7 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, several personal best performances, and many swims within, or close to, the regional qualifying standard (based on 2007 short course times).
14 year old Liam Herbert led the way in the backstroke, winning the 200m contest and taking silver in the 100m, achieving substantial personal best times on route. He went on to clock 59.9 seconds to reach the 100m freestyle final, and now is well within reach of his first ever National Qualifying Times for all three events.
James Clark won the ‘Best 12 Year Old Boy’ award having secured gold medals in the 100m & 200m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, and a bronze in the 100m butterfly. There were also podium finishes for Samantha Berry (11 years) who took first place in the 100m & 200m butterfly, second in the 100m backstroke and third in the 200m backstroke.
Megan Jones (13) was in superb form over the 3 days, recording significant PBs in most of her swims. She reached the finals of the 100m butterfly, freestyle and backstroke events and achieved the 2007 regional qualifying standard in the 100m & 200m backstrokes and 200m freestyle.
Some other noteworthy performances came from Charlotte Gardo (11 yrs, 4th – 100m fly), Beth Preston (13 yrs, 4th – 100m frs; 6th – 100m fly), Charlotte Pitts (11yrs, 7th – 200m brs; 8th – 100m brs), Matthew Sambrook (11 yrs, 4th – 100m brs; 5th – 100m & 200m bk) and Liam Tubb (12 yrs, 6th – 100m bk; 8th 100m fly).
