Masters Extend Lead in County Champs
Paul Kirk broke 2 county records in the second round of the Wiltshire Masters Championships at the Link Centre on Saturday evening in a contest that saw Swindon Dolphin Masters progress to the final round on October 4th having extended their lead over their closest rivals, Salisbury, by 33 points. In the 35-39 years age group, Kirk smashed the 25m freestyle record with a new time of 12.20 and then went on to break Steve Cryer’s 50m butterfly record, set in 2003, with a new best time of 28.22.
Individually, Jon Audis and Brian Davis were in top form both winning four events; Louise Maynard, Andi Manley, Kirk and Jose Adam took three apiece and Richard Fouracre secured two first places. Dean Fouracre and Dave Ingram also recorded fine wins while Glenys France, Ingram, Jan Petr, along with Richard & Dean Fouracre added valuable second and third place finishes.
In the relays, both the Men’s 120-159 years 4x25m freestyle foursome of Audis, Manley, Kirk & Mike Wootton, and the Mixed 76-120 years 4x50m medley quartet of Audis, Richard Fouracre, Maynard & Cally Gould were triumphant on the night producing spectacular swims. However, the Men’s 160 years+ medley relay team had to settle for second having been touched out by local rivals, Swindon Area Masters.
There were also impressive performances from Matt & Steve Herbert , Allan Minns, Mandy Smith and debutant Sophie Knott, who has only recently returned to competitive swimming following a serious injury.
