Records fall as Dolphins Shine

Dolphin made their mark on the British Masters Championships at Manchester Aquatics Centre, finishing third behind the London teams of Spencer and Otter.

Highlights included two British records plus 25 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals.

In the 74+ years mixed 200m medley relay, Jon Audis (backstroke) and Commonwealth finalist Chris Jones (breaststroke) were joined by debutantes Jenna Beckett (butterfly) and Kathryn Rees (freestyle) to sweep to gold in a new British record of 1:58.01.

Audis, Nigel Masters (breaststroke), Steve Cryer (butterfly) and Andi Manley (freestyle) made it a record brace in the mens’ 120+ years category in 1:50.86.

John Drake entered the record books with a new club mark of 9:49.52 in the 800m free to add to his win in his favoured 200m fly.

Audis broke his own club record in the 200m backstroke, touching in 2:14.23 to add to his 50m fly record en route to a personal best over 100m.

Chris Lock medalled for the first time, claiming three bronzes in the 50 and 100m breaststroke and 50m free.

Daughter Sarah capped it with gold in the 100m backstroke in 1:14.31 seconds.

British rankings: Spencer 274 points; Otter 169; Swindon Dolphin 158; Royal Navy 157; Trafford Metro 148; Heart of England 142; Romford Town 112; Camden Swiss Cottage 108; Gloucester Masters 101; Barnet Copthall 99.

 Dolphin juniors produced their best-ever showing at the Western Counties Regional BAGCAT championships at Millfield.

Day one produced eight finalists, 11-year-old James Clark becoming the only BAGCAT winner in Wiltshire, with gold in the 200m IM to add silver in the 100m free. Katie Carter, also 11, was third in the 200m breaststroke.

Day two saw Clark, Cathal Westman, 13, (200m breaststroke) and Rosie Wells, 12, (200m backstroke) unsurpassed.

Other finalists: Elizabeth Beckett, Samanatha Berry ( fifth, 100m fly), Tim Berry (seventh, 200m breaststroke), Jose Prunty, Peter Wasielewski.
