Samantha Stars on Day One of the Regional BAGCATS

Samantha Berry: 2 NQTs



Day 1:

On the opening day of the first of two weekends of the South West Age Group Regional Championships at Millfield School, 11 year old Samantha Berry emerged as Swindon Dolphin’s star swimmer recording her first ever National Qualifying Times (NQTs).


Berry was in awesome form winning gold in her age group in the 400m Individual Medley in a NQT of 5.48.53. She then went on to secure her second NQT of the day finishing fifth in the final of the 200m freestyle in a time of 2.26.02.



Charlotte Pitts: Gold in 200 Freestyle

Charlotte Pitts judged her race to perfection taking gold in the girls’ 10 year 200m freestyle by out sprinting Elly Clement of Millfield over the last 10 meters.


Cathal Westman and James Clark had to settle for silver this year in the boys’ 100m breaststroke. Westman was beaten on the touch by Plymouth Leander’s Joe Parker by .07 of a second in an exciting finish in the 14 year final, while Clark saw Joseph Poynter of Bournemouth win gold ahead of him in his 12 year final.


In the finals of the 200m butterfly, James Clark was 7th in the boys’ 12 year age group and Tim Berry (14 yrs) was 5th.


The boys’ four by 100m relay quartet of Liam Herbert (back), Westman (brs), Tim Berry (fly) and Clark (free) won a creditable bronze behind two of the top relay outfits in the country, Plymouth Leander and Millfield.


Megan Jones (12), Beth Preston (13), Haley Innes (13), and Long Course debutant Niall Westman all performed very well.
